It is that time of year again and the call went out for all hands to help to launch the boats on Lough Beltra. The Glenisland Co-op now have 10 boats , so it takes a bit of effort to get them all in the water ahead of the opening day on 20th March.
The boats are stored over the close season either inside the fine boathouse or overturned near the harbour. The job today was to flip over the upturned boats and drag them into the water where they could be rowed around to the harbour and moored. Those which were indoors had to be similarly man-handled. Today was a lovely warm and sunny day and we had a great turn out of club members so the job was completed in record time. Here are a few photos from this evening:
One slight complication was the removal of a dead tree which had been washed into the harbour during a spate last winter. It had to be removed so a rope was attached and a boat used to tow the tree out to a place where a 4×4 could drag it clear.
